We’re one month into the new decade and already the quality drops have started to materialise, Zito Mowa & Krippsoulisc’s new Goat Stew EP being an exquisite example. A collaboration which might at first seem unexpected, Mowa’s experimental beat tinkering with Krippsoulisc’s atmospheric dub flavours, the two show sonic differences are small barriers to overcome.
Comprising one original and two remixes, Goat Stew is all killer no filler. The original is fat and funky, but still incorporates a lot of atmosphere and space. Label boss W.NN.E contributes one of his finest yet in his Broken Dreams Dub, a more spacey and soulful take that feels versatile enough to play out in a variety of different spaces. Artist of the moment China Charmeleon’s remix looks to do the heaviest damage though, a lot of funk and a ton of low ends for peak time dancefloor havoc.
Garden Groove Music definitely had a standout year in 2019, a sense of maturing and growth being a defining theme. With releases like this their catalog appears ready for a big 2020.
