At the beginning of the Covid-19 lockdown two Cape Town based DJs & producers, Blaqkongo and Mr Blasé, set themselves the goal of releasing one tune per week for as long as the lockdown lasted. Both artists have now compiled their tracks into individual EPs and released them online.

Blaqkongo’s aptly titled 38 Days 38 Ways title is reflective of the journey he underwent sticking to the challenge, having to expand his creative toolbox as well as mental resilience to get it done.

All 4 original tracks are prime dancefloor material, without a second wasted. Somethin’ Bout U (which gets the radio and extended treatments) is menacingly heavy on the low ends but still keeps the vibe light with some melodics over the top. Always There brings in a blend of the soulful and the funky, subtly infused with a longing emotion. This moves into the closing track Be Free which wouldn’t be out of place on an A+ Razor N’ Tape compilation. Trust In Me sticks out as a significant highlight, a synth heavy anthem that’s got peak-time energy to spare.
