essential five mkly

We are very pleased to welcome MKLY as our latest Essential Five guest. As an artist he has played alongside the likes of Oliver Schories, Sebastian Leger, Black Coffee & Till Von Sein, while his productions have been supported by both local & international tastemakers. Not be content with this he also serves as a label partner under Ambious Records, giving young South African deep house talent the platform to reach the masses.

He took our challenge of choosing 5 sounds that shaped his sound head on, selecting a list of records that can all be traced to his own production sound in their melodic and emotive energy.

1. Karada, Pedro Mercado – You Take Me There Behind The Sun (Rodriguez Jr. Alternative Remix)

“Rodriguez Jr.’s capability to create emotional depth has an ability to inspire producers to go further with less.”

2. Matthew Herbert – It’s Only (DJ Koze Remix)

“DJ Koze’s eccentric production style shed new light on not conforming to a specific style of mixing or production and pushing your production to wherever you think it should go.”

3. Chymera – Caprica Burning (Lake People Remix)

“Lake People has an easy way of creating space in his music with a few key, well placed elements, a few filters and clever use of reverb and delay.”

4. Francesco Chiocci – Black Sunrise ft. Black Soda (Musumeci Remix)

“Musumeci’s take on Black Sunrise really got me into the darker side of house music with local vocalist Black Soda bringing it home.”

5. Atjazz, Jullian Gomes – Daggers Drawn

“This track reminded me how much talent we have in South Africa and the power of collaboration.”
